bulletNote from Bryce Danna with the BD information:

My complete fuel kit doesn't come with a gauge, but the regulator I use has a pre-tapped connection for one. I'd recommend a GReddy electronic gauge, the sensor screws right into the regulator and it's a piece of cake from there.  As far as my setup goes, I basically supply everything but rail and injectors. Dusty can cut you the same deal as me, and I don't have a source any cheaper than that. But I'll supply extra fuel pump, , second fuel filter, all lines and fittings for the fuel, FPR, wiring harness to hook it all up etc. etc. It's a fairly easy install, you will have to cut a hole in the top of the sender unit on the gas tank for the exit of the 2nd fuel line, but that's about all the modification that is required. Oh, the fuel pressure regulator takes the place of the traction control actuator, or at least that's how the lines come precut to fit.

I precut the lines to physically locate the FPR in place of the Trac actuator. It fits nicely there, and doesn't require any custom brackets to be made to mount the FPR. Take a look at Peter Blach's car (Texas) or my car in readers rides and you'll see what I'm talking about. Yes, you will lose traction control, but you can just remove the actuator and tie wrap it down by the battery base out of the way. I run an electronic fuel pressure gauge just so I can see what's happening if the car is going lean for some unknown reason. I can look at fuel pressure to make sure it is staying up. If one pump goes out, your car will still run and idle fine, but you won't be able to maintain fuel pressure under boost. The fuel pressure gauge will let you know this.

bulletNote from Tim Maxwell with the SP information (setup was from March 2001 - their single turbo components have since changed):

This is an extensive, in depth explanation of the Single Turbo process. We hope it will answer your immediate and initial questions!

Sound Performance Single Turbo Kit, Turbo of your choice, the RPS header which is designed for maximum torque, Turbonetics Wastegate, BOV, all of the lines, fittings, brackets. Complete kit, $3999. Labor to install kit is $1000. We can also modify the RPS header to accept the HKS GT series wastegate. You get a credit from RPS taking off the Turbonetics wastegate then the additional cost of the HKS unit and the necessary welding runs an additional $500.

Sound Performance Fuel System. 720 cc HKS Injectors (these are $180 each!), our custom polished fuel rail, Paxton Fuel Pressure Regulator, 2nd OEM factory Supra pump, NOS fuel pressure gauge mounted inside of the engine bay, all the stainless steel lines, Earls/Aeroequip fittings. Complete kit, $2300. Labor to install fuel kit $600. FMIC two options we recommend for high HP cars. The GReddy or HKS unit. Both of these kits come complete with the hard pipe kits. GReddy is $1800 and HKS $2000. Labor to install either FMIC kit, $400.

Electronics, we use exactly what we use on our two Supras which have run into the 9's this year. HKS EVC Easy ($350), HKS VPC ($950), HKS GCC ($485). Also need a turbo timer and there are many to choose from HKS, GReddy, Blitz, Apexi and you should select one that has the features you prefer and is visually appealing to you. None of them run over $150. Labor to install all electronics $ 325

There are so many exhausts to choose from, but to me, the best looking and sounding are the GReddy Power Extreme or HKS Super Drager. Both have a very deep idle sound and monstrous roar at wide open throttle. Either of these we sell for $800 and will put on the car for no charge since the factory exhaust has to come off anyway. HKS does make a very impressive 4" exhaust with a Titanium muffler but it is priced at like $1250!

On gauges, this is your call and you should choose the gauges that are most visually appealing to you. We can discuss mounting locations of gauges and electronics when you get to the shop. I recommend either HKS, GReddy or Apexi gauges. We can show you what the gauges look like when you get to the shop and look over the catalogs. We recommend getting at least a boost and EGT (exhaust gas Temperature) gauges. Optional gauges are 2nd Fuel Pressure gauge, Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, Trans Temp... Pricing on all of the gauges vary slightly: for the minimum of BOTH boost and EGT, HKS range from $335 for basic mechanical to $700 for electronic with memory playback, peak hold, warning lights. GReddy units range $280 for mechanical, $390 for electronic/no warning/peak hold and $490 for electronic with peak hold/warning. Apexi gauges come in the very nice looking "Indigo" backlighting which is an appealing light blue in color. Their mechanical boost gauge is $165 for boost only, no EGT. Electronic Boost and EGT gauges are $600 for the pair. Prices to install boost and EGT gauge, $ 120.

The above is the bare minimum without addressing the issue of a clutch, of which there are several to choose from and we will need to discuss clutch decision on your intended use for the Supra. I did not get a chance to read my home email, so I will forward this letter as well and make any additional recommendations tonight. Clutch installation with turbo kit install would be $90 since we pull the motor and trans anyway to install the kit.

Optional are as follows: The White Supra we built that ran 9.83 ran factory motor (pistons, rods, cams) so doing the below is not absolutely necessary IMHO for a street driven vehicle. The above will easily make enough horsepower to overwhelm any kind of street tire available on the market save the Mickey Thompson ET Street.

On cams and cam gears, we can get you the PHR cams, HKS cams or JUN cams. PHR cams I believe are $700, HKS are $1400 (list for $850 each) and JUN are $1480 list. JUN will not let us discount any of their products. On cam gears, we sell AEM cam gears for $350 but I recommend the JUN gears first at $360 and the HKS ones 2nd at $360 also . Installation price on gears in minimal but cams require reshimming the head and that can take upwards of 4 to 5 hours @ $60 an hour. To build your motor, we use JE pistons and can get them with the heat resistance coatings. We charge $950 for pistons. On rods, we can get Crower, JUN or Pauter (pronounced Powder) and they start at $1400. The factory crack is fine for any HP levels and we charge $1000 even to rebuild a motor with new bearings, seals and rings plus machine shop costs to rebore the cylinder walls and replace any worn sensors.

We also have a cost effective modification to the factory intake manifold that increases the interior volume to flow more air. Cost on our modified intake is $999.

We also port cylinder heads, cost on this is $ 1500.

Lastly is direct port nos which do quite differently than any other shop in the country. We use the brand new annular discharge NOS jets with the basic NOS direct port kit. Price for everything, the direct port kit, bottle, bottle warmer, nos pressure gauge, nos and fuel filters, all the stainless steel lines, fittings etc is $1750 for parts and installation.

Our automatic trans upgrade (if you REALLY want to have fun with your car I recommend getting an auto) is baseline $3500. We break down and inspect each trans individually to make sure there are no bearing that are past specs, the gear sprags are not worn and the input shaft shows no wear. Our converters sell for $1100 and we use the basic B&M 28000 rated trans cooler which is at best $200 for the cooler, lines and fittings and an hour of labor to install it.

So there you have it, to summarize, the bare minimums you need to do a single upgrade the right way the first time are:

Turbo kit, $3999 + 1000 labor
Fuel System $2300 + 600 labor
FMIC $1800 + 400 labor
Electronics ~ $1900 + 325 labor
Exhaust $800 no labor
Gauges ~ $600 + 120 labor

For all of this we are at:

11,339 in parts and with %7 tax is $12,132.73 plus shipping on all of this.

So we have $12,132.73 + shipping ($150 to $200 at most) with roughly $2500 in labor for grand total of less than $15000 complete sans your clutch or auto trans upgrade.

You need to consider the long term effects of running high HP though clutches as well. When we change a clutch we have to drop the entire transmission and we bill 6 hours @ 60 an hour. If you are going to drag race a lot, you will go through clutches at least once a year minimum!

You can play with the #'s more yourself on getting a built motor, our modified intake manifold, cylinder head porting or direct port NOS. We are not a one man operation like PHR, we have 5 full time technicians working on anywhere from 3 to 6 cars a day.

I hope this addresses all of your questions and concerns but if you do have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask them by calling 630.892.5002 and asking for Larry, Ivan, Cooter/Tom or myself. It takes us roughly 3 weeks at best to get all of the parts shipped here and ready to install. We could begin on your car in less than 1 month.

Sincerely,

Tim Maxwell
